Immerse Yourself in the World of the Romans

Sister M. Anne-Meike Brück
Germany

The First “Roman Day”

on Mount Schoenstatt, Germany

The Marienland Vallendar Conference Center, in cooperation with the Kinder College Koblenz, hosted a Roman Day on June 15, 2024.

Sister M. Anne-Meike Brück, director of the conference center, as well as some sisters of the dynamic province, which also has its provincial house near the conference center, actively enriched the day.

Not far from the Limes border, almost 100 people gathered to recreate for a day the life of the Romans on the edge of the Westerwald.

Conrad Lunar appeared as a Roman. He gave the children and parents a very impressive presentation of Roman life on the Middle Rhine and the Drachenkopfweg trail that runs along the Rhine.

Workshops such as Roman pottery (with Sister M. Natalie Stewart), ancient philosophy (with Sister M. Nurit Stosiek), making real wax writing tablets (with a father of the children present) and excited children reporters from the Roman world (with Sister M. Anrika Dold) – equipped with a specially made toga and tunic – delighted not only children and adults, but also the accompanying sisters.

Everyone, adults and children, felt completely at ease in the conference center and on Mount Schoenstatt. The large grounds and the opportunity to talk to the people on Mount Schoenstatt fascinated the children, perhaps also because they interviewed many sisters from all over the world. Spontaneous encounters between the children and people who have discovered Mount Schoenstatt for themselves as a local recreation area were also characterized by great cordiality and appreciation on both sides.

One of the highlights was the big Hannibal elephant raffle at the end of the event, where there were various sweets and toys as well as large elephant stools to be won.

This theme day was the prelude to further theme days.
